Job Description:

The Senior Specialist - Precision Medicine will support the director of Precision Medicine in the overall development, implementation and surveillance of project plans for precision medicine at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Coordinates medication access and acquisition through pharmaceutical company relationships (external), insurance payors (external), philanthropic programs (external) and coordination with physician and nursing (internal), pharmacy (internal/external), finance/administration (internal). This role will be responsible for coordinating patient care as it relates to medication access; tracking clinical/pathologic/molecular data and outcomes for each patient; and ensuring the delivery of the therapy management.  Regularly reviews performance of existing acquisition strategies regularly and makes adjustments where and when necessary This role requires the ability to motivate and influence cross-functional teams and work with stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization to effectively understand challenges, formulate creative options, and implement measurable solutions related to the medication acquisition process. Additional duties as directed.

Job Responsibilities

  • 15%| Precision Medicine Department Support:  In conjunction with the Director of Precision Medicine and assigned department leaders, assists with the implementation and management of precision medicine service lines and support services across the enterprise.
  • 50%| Medication Acquisition Management: Manage the entire end to end process for off label access to targeted therapy and immunotherapy medications ordered by physicians they support by region.  This includes submitting prior authorizations and pre-certifications to payors and appealing any denials for these medications.  Following through on process to enroll patient in patient assistance program or co-pay assistance program when payor denies coverage.  Communicate outcome with ordering physician and his/her clinical team on outcome and ensure smooth transition for patient initiating therapy.  Trouble shoot all issues as they arise related to this process.  Ensure that all documentation related to this process is complete, current and stored appropriately and reported to appropriate team members in timely manner (including tracking documents, status reports, and all other documents deemed necessary) Ensure compliance with the application and communication of all policies, procedures and fundamentals within the assigned region.  Provide coverage for counterparts for this process in their absence. Support and assist Precision Medicine coordinators in efforts related to the management of this process.
  • 25%| Track clinical/pathologic/molecular data and outcomes for each patient.  Report outcomes to PMed Director/Program Manager
  • 10%| Identify and abstract all necessary oncology data elements for individual research projects or enterprise wide data sets as directed by Precision Medicine Director or Precision Medicine Program Manager

Skills, Education and Additional Information

  • Registered Nurse; Minimum BS/BA in Nursing
  • Must have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in healthcare environment
  • Oncology nursing experience necessary
  • Experience/knowledge in emerging space of oncology genomics necessary
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Demonstrates ability to file insurance appeals on behalf of patients for private and public insurance carriers.
  • Knowledge of reviewing, analyzing and managing assistance contracts between patients and drug/insurance companies.
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize heavy workload and meet deadlines despite constant interruptions and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where information must be assembled quickly.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; builds relationships with all levels of the organization, internally and externally.
  • Actively demonstrates commitment to providing excellent treatment options to patients.
  • Demonstrates ability to reach decisions; takes appropriate action and follow through.
  • A proactive thinker, extremely organized and goal oriented.
