The responsibilities the Infusion Center Registered Nurse (RN) include, but are not limited to, chemotherapy administration, blood product administration, hydration, intravenous catheter care, access of VAD, medication administration, venipuncture, inhalation treatments, intraperitoneal administration, patient and family education, emergency care of patients, patient follow-up and scheduling procedures. Evaluates and educates patients on symptom management following ONS guidelines for cancer nursing practice. Coordinates care with physicians and support staff in other departments in care of infusion patients. Attends a minimum of one oncology conference per year. Evaluates and educates patients on symptom management following department guidelines. Provides patient education related to disease and treatment. Adjusts to infusion staffing needs under the direction of the manager/team leader to include other related job duties. The infusion nurse will also be responsible for the knowledge and technical skills needed to operate a variety of mechanical devices to accomplish this task. The infusion nurse is accountable for the age groups (average age group populations includes adolescents, adults and geriatrics) as defined in the scope of care.
Key Position Qualifications
- Current State Pennsylvania Registered Nurse License required
- CPR Certification required
- ACLS Certification required
- ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification required
- OCN within 2 years of employment
- Knowledge of chemotherapeutic agents, side effects, indications. Knowledge of EMR.
- BLS/ACLS required.
- ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Card
- OCN certification preferred or willing to obtain after the first year of hire within 2 years of employment.
